First Samples with Gem-Quality Macrodiamonds from Maniitsoq Kimberlite Province, West Greenland
15 Dec 2011
Intex Resources has received the diamond recovery results of its two mini-bulk samples of kimberlite from the Maniitsoq region in West Greenland, collected in the summer 2011. The diamond recovery by dense media separation returned a total of nine macrodiamonds over 0.85 mm; six from a 12.7-tonne kimberlite sample from the Majuagaa area, and three from a 14.1-tonne sample from the Sillissannguit area (Table 1). The largest diamond was a fragment, with estimated less than 40% of its original crystal shape preserved. This diamond was retained on a 2.36 mm sieve fraction and weighed 0.33 ct. It is the largest diamond recorded to date from the Maniitsoq region.Read more >>
All nine macrodiamonds are white or off-white, colourless and with no or only minor inclusions, which is a high quality for a natural diamond assemblage. Intex considers this as encouraging considering the early stage of development.
